Time Lapse Sky
June 21, 2007

Happy summer solstice. Did you get hit with any severe weather? Storms just flirted with Northeast Minneapolis. Here's a cool time lapse of thunderhead clouds around sunset, with bonus secret messages.

Tres Cool! I want to know how you did the time lapse, specially when panning. Special camera?

Not really, just a Canon 20D on a tripod. Much of the time I tried to snap the shutter every 15 seconds, other times it was just every so often.

Panning I just did a little tiny bit at a time, snapping the shutter each time I nudged it. Ended up looking kinda cool.

I animate the sequence using After Effects but there are probably other ways to do it. Lotsa fun.

Awesome,

The slowdown and speedups were really cool.

Stills for video are the new cool.

And you are the master, my friend.

I love this still photo style, and really loved your editing on this one.

Kudos. Time lapses of nature make for great b-roll. We used some stuff that WGBH released in their Creative Commons Sandbox for The Great Turning
