I went into the woods close to our home here in S.E. Minnesota and found a few of them today 05/07/07. Its going to be a fantastic season for Morels here in Minnesota this year! In the past 4 days out looking I have brought home 388 tasty morel mushrooms ! Yummy !

388? Jesus that's a lot of mushrooms! What on Earth did you do with all of them? (and what possessed you to count them?)
We eat em ! Morels are really tasty. As for counting them gee's I don't really know its just something I've always done. I can put it this way, if your a person that's into morels and your talking to another person that's into them the first thing either one of you wants to know is HOW MANY DID YOU FIND? Braging rights ! I hope you get to try them someday they are fantastic! bye

I have never tried one...I will seek them out (although probably in a store, thus taking away from the whole morel experience somewhat)
Hi Chuck, The trick is when you get in the woods say a known morel producing location, GO SLOW ! as when you spot your first morel you will probably notice all the ones you missed. lol ! I've been hunting morel mushrooms for close to 40 years, now I pretty much follow my nose as the morel fungus gives off a very strong odor. Good Luck

I have been looking for a few years and don't see very many. I would like to know what places or habitats should I be finding to start my search. I believe that they are in hardwood forests, on sunny slopes, dead and dying elms. I'm not very lucky in my search and I'm "mad" about mushrooms.
