Electric Arc Radio

Imagine this: four writers living together in a little house on a city street, with Alan Greenspan (yeah, that Alan Greenspan) holed up in a back-yard treehouse and a punk poet next door. That's just the tip of the Electric Arc Radio story, which really must be seen+heard to be believed. Or, not believed.

Here's a behind-the-scenes peek at an Electric Arc rehearsal and performance with arts editor Claire Joubert from Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.

Best of the MN Snow Storm

We'd almost forgotten: Shovelling loads of wet, heavy snow is the mark of a true Minnesotan. Parts of the metro reached 15 or even 20 inches. Here's a sampling of YouTube videos from folks who managed to mix in a little fun with their misery.

Rebuilding New Orleans

While John Edwards was helping landscape a yard in New Orleans, some nice folks from a church group were gutting a house down the street. Todd Daniel gave me a tour of one devastated house in the upper Ninth Ward and explained how much work remains to be done there.

Wargoon Flishe trailer

John Akre, fervent non-driver and the filmmaker behind Sloppy Films, is debuting his animated masterpiece Wargoon Flishe at the Bedlam Theatre on Sunday, February 25th at 7 p.m.

Check out the diary for deeper thoughts, such as this one:

when i have created a big project, and just finished it, i am in a magical mind. i am talking about the time between the point at which i consider the project finished and the time i actually show it to other people. this is a magical time because i am usually so in love with the thing i have created, so amazed that it is actually done, that i am filled from top to bottom with a kind of joy. but i also have come to realize that this joy will not last.

Chase Korte: 1982 - 2007

Kevin from Video Haiku writes:

My good friend Chase Korte died in a car accident last weekend, in Los Angeles. He was 24.

I was lucky to know him, lucky to work with him, and lucky to have all this super-8 footage of him still on my hard drive, from a short film I shot for him last summer.

So, even though he was the writer, director and producer of that film, I took the creative liberty of appropriating his footage and cutting together something of my own, to hold onto and remember him by.

Hope he doesn't mind.

From A Home in Mound: Dad tries to untangle his daughter Maeve's hair while Cecelia keeps going after the camera. It's a bit long at 12 minutes, but I guarantee you'll laugh at this increasingly absurd situation.
