DJ mister maker
How long have you lived in Miami then ?
The Punk of DA South
I lived in Miami, Fl all 22 years of my life... Born at Jackson Memorial and raised in Large Mart Projects,
Scott Projects,Victory Home Projects Polk & Bean Projects and Brown Sub Projects on the hard streets of Liberty City.
DJ mister maker
Dam so what's the scene like there ?
The Punk of DA South
Well its all good down here in DA dirty south. Club life, man what can I say, I mean
I hit up Cloud Nine, Colosseum, Purple Haze, Club Boi, Twist, Fat Tuesdays and too many to even mention... The scenery is beautiful and the people whether you gay or not are very fun people. I'm love by many and hated by few but no matter what I'm still gone be me. I can say you got those who dislike gays but you have many that love 'em because gay people energetic, live and just some real trill azz people.
DJ mister maker
so, when did you start rapping ? Did you start as being openly gay, or what ?
The Punk of DA South
Well I started off at the age of 10 with the puppies Big Boi and Tamara dancing in their music videos... I used to go through my house free styling to any and every kind of beat. Music was always in me and when I was in middle school I used to always write rhymes and freestyle against the straight boys...Yeah I used to win... I used to bang on the garbage cans to beats in my head and then one day I came up with a hook called "Big Rosa" and started free styling to it and everybody was living for it and telling me '' man you need to become a rapper you can really flow". So when I finally got to high school, North Miami Senior High I thought about it and finally made the song " Big Rosa"... After making the song, I entered the school talent show to show everyone what I had... Yeah ya boi won..
DJ mister maker
So what made you get serious about it (try and give me in depth answers)
The Punk of DA South
What caused me to get more serious was the talent show... At that time I was on the DL(down low) or so they thought I don't know how DA hell, when I just knew I was the gayest bitch in DA world. I used to always use gay slang terminology like "what's the tee " and when asked what I am I would respond a BQ(Butch queen)... But enough about me back to what you were saying, so I called up Calvin Mills which by the way is Big Boi and Tamara'D daddy and also producer and let him hear the song and he was like that was hot do I have anything else, I told him yeah him and Gucci Red was on they to my crib and can I get a performance together before they arrived I told him yeah and luckily my dancers and I was working on a dance to the song I made when they got there Gucci Red asked can he see the project.. I had no problem wit it so I performed for them right there in my living room and luckily Big Boi and Tamara
was performing at the skating ring that night and he asked me to do the opening... Now you know I had to hype the crowd up and loved me. From there I was doing show after show every Friday night. Unlike everybody else I wasn't getting paid... But I didn't care because I have so much love for my music but that didn't last very long...Music brings me peace.
DJ mister maker
So do you have a following ?
The Punk of DA South
Yeah I entered more talent shows and kept doing what I was doing hoping to get discovered... But I didn't let the whole
"Calvin Mills" thing get me down. I did show after show, after show ,after show and kept winning. One Show that I was most shocked about was a show that I had to audition for. When I got in the next week I heard that the talent show was canceled but the following week after I received a Check in the mail stating that I was Grand Prize winner. I was in total shock because I didn't even have to perform.
d jmister maker
cool, so what was it like doing your first show as a openly gay MC.
The Punk of DA South
It was cool man everybody loved it. The crowd went crazy and I was in total shock because it was more straight people there than gay shouting out "encore"... The feeling is the best Feeling I've ever felt... I got goose bumps going up my spine to hear everybody chant my name. I felt like a superstar when I left DA show.
DJ mister maker
nice, so when did you first start recording ?
The Punk of the South
I first started recording in 1997 in Brown Sub in my moms garage where my dancers and I would work on our vocals and dance moves... I remember having karaoke sessions and many hard practices and then when I moved out of Brown Sub I move to the Polk & Beans Projects where I got my first computer. I remember when I used to look thru the yellow pages calling studio to studio asking for prices for studio time and with me being from the projects I couldn't afford what they were asking for but I finally found a studio charging $35 an hour which I had to save up every month and then I finally got the money for it. I went to the studios and they all turned me down because I was gay so I got on my computer and found a file called "Sound Blaster Music Wave Recorder"... I was new to this so I didn't understand nothing that it was sayin so I sat there until I figured it out and started recording my music with my computer and simple microphone and that's pretty much How I started recording.
DJ mister maker
when did you first start recording your music for people to listen too. .
Punk of DA South
Well I first started recording my first mix tape in 1999 which was ''Living the Gay Life". With "Homo thugs" being my next hit followed by other mix tapes by ya boi Diamon D.i.v.a. And now I'm working on my new project ''Gay America".
DJ mister maker

The punk of DA South

DJ mister maker
So tell me more about the track Pink Tee, I must admit it's catchy and funny, what's the deal with that track ?
The Punk Of Da South
lol Well I was at home and my friend's was like some body made a song call pink tee so I put it on and the rapper that did it was talking in bad about punk's so I call him out by doing the song over but I did not think that it will get played like that in Miami with me being gay and all but it did and I had fun making it cuz the things that was going on in my head at that time man I just had to Mack fun of him
DJ mister maker
